About the Role

As a Heavy Diesel Mechanic, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and repairing Alton Drilling’s fleet of drilling rigs, heavy machinery and support vehicles. Working as part of our workshop team, you’ll carry out planned maintenance, fault finding and repairs to ensure our equipment is safe, reliable and ready to perform in the field.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and unplanned maintenance on drilling rigs, heavy machinery and support vehicles.
• Diagnose faults and complete repairs efficiently and safely.
• Service and maintain diesel-powered equipment to minimise downtime.
• Assemble and fit components using technical drawings and specifications where required.
• Complete inspections and ensure equipment meets operational and safety standards.
• Maintain accurate servicing, maintenance and repair records.
• Work collaboratively with the workshop team to achieve quality, safety and operational goals.
• Contribute to a safe, clean and organised work environment.
• Perform other duties as required.

What We’re Looking For

• NZQA Level 4 Trade Qualification in Diesel or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Proven experience as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic.
• Full New Zealand Driver Licence.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working on drilling rigs or heavy mobile plant is highly desirable.
• Fabrication and welding experience is an advantage.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong commitment to health and safety.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
